MCT Oil Or Hemp Seed Oil - Which is Better?

Would a natural and health-boosting supplement make your pet's life better? One topic that has recently become popular in the world of pet health is supplementation with CBD, or cannabidiol. CBD oil, however, needs a carrier oil to be rightly absorbed by the body. To help ensure maximum effectiveness, it’s essential to consider which carrier oil would be best for your pet - hemp seed oil or MCT (medium chain triglyceride) oil. In this blog post, we'll explore the differences between these two oils so that you can make an informed decision about what's suitable for your furry friend.

IS CBD Oil Better than MCT Oil?

What is MCT Oil?

MCT oil is short for medium-chain triglycerides, which are fats that are especially advantageous for the production of carrier oils. Unlike long-chain triglycerides, MCTs do not need to go through the typical breakdown process and can be absorbed directly into the body, where they can be quickly converted into energy.

Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) are essential fatty acids found in natural dietary sources such as coconut oil and palm kernel oil. Examples of MCTs include lauric acid, capric acid, caprylic acid, and more. Coconut oil, for example, the go-to healthy fat for many people, is almost entirely made up of medium-chain triglycerides (MCT). However, in addition to the MCTs, coconut oil contains other fatty components and substances, which isn't necessarily ideal for all uses. That's why specialized products have only MCT oil in them.

It all sounds great, right? Well... Better look closer.

MCT oil is often touted for its health benefits, but the truth is that it must undergo significant processing before it can be used as a carrier oil. This process of fractionating, deodorizing, and bleaching strips MCT oil from the majority of its naturally-occurring healthy phytonutrients such as beta-carotene and vitamin A. It's important to remember these processes when evaluating MCT oil products--while they may have some beneficial properties, they should not be considered an entirely natural source of nutrition.

What is MCT oil

It doesn't end there, though. While it may seem like MCT oil is simply a highly-processed source of energy, the environmental impact of its production is immense. Many health enthusiasts may not be aware that the harvesting of raw ingredients for MCT takes a heavy toll on the environment. The processes used to obtain these materials are highly detrimental and are causing an increase in deforestation due to the rising demand for these sources. It has a toll on the biodiversity of forests, and the weather as a whole.

There must be an alternative, though, right?

Enter the Hemp Seed Oil

The cannabis plant is indeed incredible. While we use cannabis's leaves and flowers to create the CBD oil that is our flagship, those are not the only parts of the crop we can use. Hemp seed oil, sometimes called cannabis sativa seed oil, makes for a great carrier oil for CBD because it is made from cold-pressed hemp seeds, ensuring healthy essential fatty acids and vitamins are preserved in the process. For this reason, hemp seed oil alone can preserve anti-inflammatory properties, and antioxidant properties, among much more.

The whole process of hemp seed oil creation is greener too - there is no need for refining, blending, or deodorizing which can be required with MCT oils, so the environment can suffer less. In addition, hemp seed oil is full of nutrients, minerals, and antioxidants that, when combined with CBD, may provide us with further gains such as improved hair strength and cardiovascular health, which MCT can't do for CBD oil. Hemp seed oil is an all-around better carrier to CBD compared to MCT oils!

Which is Better? MCT Oil, or Hemp Seed Oil?

By now you are probably already guessing. Yes, Hemp Seed Oil is a far better carrier oil for CBD oils than MCT could ever be. They are not only made from the same plant but also synergize in a way that their individual benefits can complement each other for even greater well-being. MCT is easier to synthesize, sure, but we should be more preoccupied with what is better for our consumers and their pups, and not what's easier for us to do.

That's why we, here at Innovet, can proudly say we only use Hemp Seed Oil as a carrier for our CBD oils. High quality is always one of our top priorities. We guarantee that each of our hemp-based products is carefully produced with the utmost regard for safety and sustainability. To prove our commitment to this promise, we happily display the USDA organic certification, which characterizes and verifies any organization as a reputable supplier of organic products or ingredients. Not only does this oversee the production process of our hemp, but it allows us to express the care we take to ensure that every item reaching your doorstep is exactly up to your standard.
